Founded in Liverpool in 1848, and with an international membership of nearly 500 individuals and institutions, the HSLC exists to promote the study of the history of the ancient palatinate counties of Lancashire and Cheshire. Its extensive library is housed in the Local Record Office, 4th Floor, Liverpool Central Library, William Brown St, Liverpool, and the majority of the Society's meetings, which are usually free and open to all, are held in or near to Liverpool City Centre.
