The Society has been working on Local History since it was established in the 1950’s. During that time it has built up a considerable archive consisting of maps, photographs and documents together with a useful local history library. It also includes the Sibley Collection of over 700 topographical drawings and watercolours together with over 2000 related transparencies. The maps include a rare copy of the original Formby Tithe Map together with its (card-indexed) schedule, now on digital database. Using these resources past and present members have written and published some important historical studies. These include ‘Viking Village’. (Edith Kelly, 1973) and ‘Britain’s First Life Boat Station’, ( B and R. Yorke, 1982). Other publications include several illustrated histories and a ‘Town-Trail’ type leaflet, ‘Discovering Formby’ reissued last year. Our resources are often used by local students and are available to all bonefide researchers, but particularly members. Secretary; Barbara Yorke MBE. Tel 01704 872187
